Leading outdoor brand Vango is sponsoring the Row2Rio 2016 expedition; a challenge that will see four adventurers cycle and row over 6,700 miles, from London to Rio, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. The route itself has never been completed, making this expedition a real voyage of discovery.
The Scotland-based adventure brand, which is owned by AMG Group, will provide the Row2Rio team with a selection of tents, sleeping bags, sleeping mats, dry bags and camping accessories.
The Row2Rio team, which includes Johnny Keevill, Jake Heath, Susannah Cass and Mel Parker, will spend over four and half months travelling over both land and sea to their final destination of Rio, Brazil. With full backing from the Ocean Rowing Society and support from experts of ocean rowing, the team have plotted a route which will allow them to complete the journey using only an ocean rowing boat and bicycles.
Derek Scott, Vango’s Marketing Director at AMG Group, said: “It is a great honour to be associated with the ambitious Row2Rio challenge in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. The spirit of adventure lies at the heart of everything we do and this marathon expedition fully embraces this philosophy.
“Given the challenging and exhausting conditions, it is vital for the team to have the best kit and be confident knowing that it has been purpose designed to protect them and keep them comfortable when camping en-route.”
Mel Parker, Row2Rio team member, said: “Vango is one of the most renowned outdoor brands in the UK and we are delighted to be collaborating with them on this expedition. Having kit we can depend on in challenging situations and designed by those who understand the gruelling nature of our adventure is of upmost importance, and that is why our collaboration with Vango is so significant.”
