The Sherpa Adventure Gear Kirtipur sweater was chosen as Gold Winner in the product category of Outdoor- Lifestyle & Fashion in the 2015 ISPO awards.
CEO and Founder, Tashi Sherpa, said: “The Kirtipur sweater has been an odyssey of hope and dedication from day one. What started off as a simple idea to empower some women in a small village to learn how to knit and make a living has now grown into an iconic symbol representing the richness of an ancient heritage with the best innovations of modern technology.”
Sherpa Adventure Gear employs over 1,000 women in local co-ops in Kirtipur and the ancient city of Bhaktapur to hand-knit and sew hats and garments. It takes a full four days for a woman in the small village of Kirtipur, Nepal, to knit one of the sweaters by hand.
