The UK’s only outdoor trade show returns to EventCity, Manchester on 9-11 July
Since its launch in 2006, the Outdoor Trade Show (OTS) has been building momentum to the point where we fast forward to 2019 and it is now the UK’s only outdoor trade show. This year’s show is set to be largest ever with over 120 exhibitors attending to showcase their latest products.
There will be a lot of new faces too, with plenty of brands exhibiting at the show for the very first time. These include Eclipse Climbing, Bo-Camp and Crespo, DMM International, Kathmandu, Birkenstock, Mountain Hardwear, Swim Secure, Kidunk, Cooltraxx, Real Outdoor Food, Grubs, Micralite, Diono, Head and Puma, Waspinator, Adventure Climb Rescue, Ticktwister, Red Original, Ecco, Earth Spirit, Gabel, THIS 1, The Outside Resource Company, Norfolk Socks, Sunwise, Coxa Carry, Long Paws and On Running.
Damon Street, from first time exhibitors Exxel Outdoors, explains why he’s chosen to exhibit at OTS this year: “I’m opening an EU subsidiary for Exxel Outdoors and launching Kelty and Sierra Designs across Europe. Time and budgets are limited, so it’s critical that I’m presenting the brands in a focused environment where retail leaders are commercially engaged.
“A long-term believer in UK shows, specifically SIGB’s Slide, I know OTS will provide a valuable opportunity to meet the right people, learn quickly and be successful.
“It’s expensive to take your buying teams to Munich. By investing in a stand at OTS, I can introduce the collections to you without pulling you away from your customers. Come and see us and let us put the kettle on for you!”
Many well-known brands are returning to OTS too, including Ardblair Sports Importers, Black Diamond, Keen, Sherpa, Icebreaker, Blundstone, Boreal, Brookite, Buff UK, Buffalo Systems, Burton McCall, Cicerone, Citrus-Lime, Coast Torches, Craghoppers, Dalesman, Danner, First Ascent, Five Ten/Adidas Terrex, GP Batteries, Grangers, Harvey Maps, Helinox, Hi-Tec Europe, HJ Hall, Hydro Flask and Reima, Keela, Ledlenser, Lowa, Lowe Alpine, Lyon Equipment, Maier Sports/Wigwam, Mammut, Mountain Boot Company, Nikwax, Ordnance Survey, Osprey, Paramo, Petzl, Vango, Vibram UK and Wilton Bradley, plus many more.
Exhibitors will be showcasing their latest products and innovations. On stand 60, Buff UK will be showing their new SS20 collection, which launches in March 2020 – including their brand-new packable baseball cap and CoolNet UV+® Tapered headband. Coast Torches, on stand 212, will be showcasing their new FL13R lightweight, rechargeable LED head torch and the HP7-XDL lightweight, long-range, focusing LED torch.
Paul, Ally and Alex from Eclipse Climbing will be on hand to take you through the new product ranges for 2020 from Edelrid, Moon Climbing and Red Chili on stand number 300. Edelrid have a vast range of new products for next year including harnesses, rope, helmets and clothing. Moon Climbing have brand new ranges of apparel for men, women and juniors, and Red Chili are launching seven new shoe models, as well as a new clothing range for both men and women.
New for 2019, GP Batteries is introducing its Discovery range of handheld and head torches on stand 208. The new range includes seven models offering different beam strengths, all water-resistant and featuring the latest light technology. On stand 120, Lyon Equipment will be displaying the SS20 collections from La Sportiva, Exped, Gregory, HydraPak, Julbo, Ortlieb and Petzl.
Key to the range and on show at OTS on stand 58 is Storm’s reduced plastic packaging aluminium bottle collection – offering wash, proof and aftercare products in eco-friendly aluminium packaging. On stand 152, Wilton Bradley is targeting the outdoor market with a range of products perfect for camping, festivals and the beach from Osprey Wetsuits, Volkswagen, Bestway Airbeds and a co-branded VW/Urban Beach range.
OTS Organiser, Marta Williams said: “With OTS now in its 14th year, the show is well established and popular amongst both retail visitors and manufacturers/distributors, with the whole industry recognising that it is the place to be and not wanting to miss out on a great opportunity to do some serious business. OTS is the largest UK outdoor show, with a great mixture of brands and in a central UK location, it is the ideal platform for retailers to visit a wide variety of customers and discover new brands and products in the market.”
Following feedback from exhibitors and visitors, last year the annual exhibition moved from its original home in Stoneleigh north to EventCity, Manchester. “The move to Manchester was daunting following 12 years at Stoneleigh Park, but it was definitely the right decision,” commented Williams.
Following last year’s show, Simon Clark, Owner of Taunton Leisure shared his feedback: “I thought the show and the venue was very good and for us this helps us maximise our time to do business with key brands and a valuable insight to other brands that we may not currently work with. All in all, a good effort.”
Peter Rostron from Helinox UK was also positive: “We had a really positive show, we were delighted with the location of the show, timing of the show and our stand location. We were impressed with the number of retailers present, not only from the outdoor market but also from other sectors, it felt like there was a real togetherness between suppliers and retailers. Overall a big step forward and has definitely laid the foundation for a well-attended UK trade show which has been missing for a number of years.”
At this year’s show there are a number of evening social events which are open to all exhibitors and visitors. From 6-7pm on Tuesday 9 July, there will be live music in the onsite café and various exhibitors will be hosting social drink events on their stands. On Wednesday 10 July, OTS will be hosting the UK Outdoor Industry Awards 2020 Finalists and drinks from 6-7pm, followed by a carvery and quiz night.
