Triathlon Edinburgh Limited has agreed to buy Keswick Mountain Festival from Brand Events TM Limited. The Scotland-based sports management company, working alongside Durty Events, has been involved in the festival since 2016, operating the triathlons, open water swims, sportive and, more recently, junior aquathlons.
Triathlon Edinburgh operates Aberfeldy Triathlon Festival and is the local race director of Ironman 70.3 Edinburgh triathlon. Durty Events operates sporting events including Craggy Island Triathlon, Selkirk MTB Marathon & MTB Enduro, Selkirk Trail Marathon and The Heb Adventure Race.
Paul McGreal from Durty Events and Richard Pearson from Triathlon Edinburgh said: “We are very excited to be acquiring this long established and well-loved festival. With our background in sports management we believe we are well placed to further improve the quality of the experience for all visitors, with an emphasis on the delivery of all sports and outdoor activities. We want to work closely with the town of Keswick, local stakeholders, sponsors and exhibitors to ensure the event develops in line with their objectives and values. We believe strong community ties are essential to the success of any event. We are very pleased that Nicola will continue to be central to the organisation of Keswick Mountain Festival and we look forward to developing the event together. Watch out for more announcements in the coming weeks and months.”
Nicola Meadley, formerly at Brand Events, will continue to work on the festival. She commented: “Keswick Mountain Festival has had several owners and this feels like exactly the right development at exactly the right time. We have the opportunity to focus on the quality of the experience for sports people and outdoor enthusiasts which will bring visitors back year after year, as well growing the festival’s reputation and attracting new people to the area.”
Keswick Mountain Festival combines sporting events, outdoor activities, inspiring speakers and live music and will take place from 16-19 May 2019. The Festival Village will be located on Crow Park from 17-19 May with speakers appearing in the adjacent Theatre by the Lake. The festival regularly attracts 20,000 visitors, with many staying for the whole weekend.
