ISPO Munich 2020 is the starting signal for a special anniversary year: 50 years ago, on 8 March 1970, the first “International Sporting Goods Fair” opened its doors. Since then, ISPO Munich on the grounds of Messe München has developed into the world’s leading sporting goods trade fair. For sports retailers, brands, media and sports business professionals, the multi-segment fair is the most important industry gathering for exchange, networking, inspiration and knowledge transfer. The upcoming ISPO Munich will take place from 26-29 January 2020.
For half a century, ISPO Munich has not only been showing the latest trends and innovations from the sporting goods industry. “For 50 years we have been creating valuable connections and bringing the world of sport together in one place”, says Markus Hefter, Exhibition Director of ISPO Munich. While around 11,000 trade visitors from 34 countries took part in the first event, more than 40,000 international trade visitors attended ISPO Munich in 1989, which is now known as the “Trade Fair of Premieres”. In 2019 there were around 80,000 trade visitors from 120 countries.
ISPO Munich 2020: trends, networking, topics in 18 halls
ISPO Munich is the first highlight of the sports year. In 2020, the segments snow sports, outdoor, urban and health and fitness will be spread over 18 halls. Exhibitors and trade visitors will get an optimal overview of developments in the global sporting goods industry.
Highlights in the coming year include the east and west entrances: eSports, which has been an integral part of the ISPO Group since 2019, is developing into an important sector of the sports industry with sensational growth figures. A worldwide turnover of 1.6 billion US dollars is forecast for 2021. In 2018 alone, 395 million people worldwide watched eSports competitions. The forecast is for 2022: 644 million viewers. The eSports area at the east entrance becomes a networking meeting place for exhibitors, influencers and trade visitors.
The west entrance is the centre of the ISPO Academy. With an extensive conference program, the knowledge platform offers the ideal place for the exchange of know-how on topics such as the digitisation of the sports industry or the sports market in China.
Designers and product developers are in their element in the field of ISPO Textrends. Here everything revolves around innovative and new fabrics, patterns and colours for the textile trends of the future season. Every year, the winners of the ISPO Award as well as the participants of ISPO Brandnew demonstrate the innovative power of the sports industry and are a highlight of every visit to the trade fair.
Sports in the City: The ISPO Munich Sports Week
For the third time, ISPO Munich is moving to the city. During the ISPO Munich Sports Week, numerous activities, ranging from product testing opportunities to sporting events, are distributed among sports retailers and retailers. The concept is more than well received by consumers and partners. In 2019 almost 12,000 sports enthusiasts took part in around 160 events. Another highlight in 2020 will be a night run in the Olympic Park.
