As the first digital conference for the sports industry, OE Retailer reports on the recent ISPO Digitize Summit…
Over 440 people from sports retail and the sporting goods industry visited the very first ISPO Digitize Summit last month, which took place on 28-29 June at ICM Munich. The event was designed to offer the trade an insight into the opportunities offered by digitalisation, to enable visitors to meet with experts and to find out about new products which can potentially help grow their business.
The two-day Summit featured a number of talks, workshops and personal coaching sessions in addition to an exhibition area. Christoph Rapp, Project Manager of ISPO Digitize, commented: “Our concept with a mixture of exhibition space, keynotes, workshops and personal coaching sessions allows us to address specific requirements individually.”
This year’s keynote speakers included Professor Bernd Thomsen, Innovation Expert and Futurologist; Robert Scoble, Disruptor, Giulio Montemagno; General Manager at AmazonPay Europe; Günter Althaus, CEO of ANWR Group eG; Philipp Roesch-Schlanderer, CEO and Founder of eGym GmbH; and Peter Schwarzenbauer, Board Member of BMW.
Key topics covered included sensor systems, proximity solutions, payment and retail technologies, CRM, ERP, inventory management, virtual and augmented reality, digital signage, additive manufacturing, 3D printing, artificial intelligence, big data, web marketing and customer service.
A wide range of themes were also discussed during the workshops, for example during a joint workshop held by Mammut and Foursource, everything revolved around the importance of an end-to-end digital transformation for the clothing industry. In contrast, the mobile business expert Heike Scholz presented innovative concepts and solutions allowing sports retailers to seize the opportunities offered by digitalisation.
Looking back on the two-day event, Tobias Gröber, Executive Director Business Unit Consumer Goods and Head of the ISPO Group, said: “The atmosphere was charged with curiosity and inspiration—not only among visitors but also among the speakers and exhibitors.”
Giuseppe Lumia, Team Lead Sales at Wirecard, added: “As the event showed, there is a need for digital solutions in the sporting goods industry. The Summit was an important first step and will hopefully encourage the sports sector to open up further. The awareness is there. We believe that this issue will grow quickly—along with the platform.”
