Grangers: The Science of Protection

Grangers have been making waterproofing products for over 80 years. Paul Lister, Sales Director, discusses the brand’s latest innovations and what they hope to achieve at OutDoor

Who are Grangers?
With a heritage spanning over 80 years, Grangers is an outdoor brand built upon a love of British weather and a desire to provide total product protection. The Grangers journey began in 1937. Some of the brand’s earliest successes included providing waterproofing products to the British Ministry of Defence and protecting Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay against the elements, in the first successful Mount Everest summit. Over 80 years later, Grangers is still as dedicated to protecting all outdoor enthusiasts against the elements, constantly reviewing new technologies and keeping sustainability and innovation at the heart of everything we do.

Can you tell us more about your new Wash + Repel Down 2 in 1?

It offers powerful cleaning and durable water repellency in one wash cycle, restores loft and maximises the performance of all down-filled clothing and gear to keep the user warmer and dryer. What makes you stand out compared to what else is on the market?
Grangers has over 80 years of experience of protecting people against the elements. We’re committed to protecting people not only now but in the future with superior-performing PFC-free aftercare. Our brand hosts a range of bluesign® approved products, after being the first aftercare brand in the world to receive bluesign accreditation in 2007. Grangers is also tested and recommended by some of the largest bluesign® approved outdoor brands in the world including Patagonia, The North Face, Jack Wolfskin, Arc’teryx, Burton Snowboards and Kathmandu. We offer solutions that the consumer can rely on, so they can focus on planning their next adventure.

What type of visitors are you keen to meet at the show?
The show represents an excellent opportunity to meet current and new retailers, distributors and brands in terms of sustaining and forming new collaborations.

Is it important to get more retailers on board?
Strong collaborations with our retail partners is integral to our success and future development plans. It is imperative to develop like-minded business partnerships with key retailers to ensure we can continue to provide excellent service to our consumers.

How eco-friendly are your products?
As part of our commitment to the environment and the consumer, all of our products are PFC-free. We’ve been a bluesign® system partner for over 10 years and are extremely proud of this accreditation. We developed our Advanced Polymer Technology (APT) which is our own blend of fluorocarbon-free polymers and emulsions. Developed by our in-house research and development team, it’s designed to provide a highly breathable and durable water-repellent finish to all outdoor gear while being environmentally responsible. We hold ISO 9001 & 14001 accreditations which mark our commitment to manufacturing. To this day, most of our products are still manufactured at Grangers’ headquarters in Derbyshire, meaning we have complete control of the quality of our products throughout the entire production process. All our manufacturing processes are conducted with the environment in mind, ensuring true environmentally-responsible protection.
