INVISTA’S CORDURA® fabric announces a sixth consistent year of multiple winning entries in the ISPO Textrends award – the key platform for performance textiles for apparel and gear autumn/winter 2021-22.
This year wins for CORDURA® fabrics span four major textile award categories out of the 10 at ISPO Munich.
A key factor in the year-on-year consistency at gaining these awards is CORDURA® fabrics ability to stay relevant and continually adapt to the changes highlighted by the future trends forecast by the ISPO Textrends team. This makes it possible to deliver a portfolio of fabrics that meet performance demands for active wear, work wear and lifestyle brands.
In short, on-trend fabrics enable production of on-trend products; something that has been recognised once again by the ISPO Textrends jury – comprised of a panel of international experts (journalists, designers and independent professionals).
Cindy McNaull, CORDURA® Global Business Development Director, explained: “We are thrilled to have our fabrics recognised at a forum that is valued for the presentation of new and innovative materials.
“We believe that ISPO Textrends helps give a focus for our innovation development and acts as a guide for designers and product managers looking for on-trend and relevant fabric solutions for their products. We are once again delighted to see our latest CORDURA® fabrics identified as both visionary and future ready by our industry peers.”
Consumers demand more from what they wear
Today’s consumers demand and expect more in terms of durability, versatility and wearability, and CORDURA® fabrics deliver – having been developed to survive in some of the world’s toughest environments and protect against tears, scuffs and abrasions.
The other growing demand is for more sustainable solutions. Consumers are now more ‘conscientious’ and are voicing more concern about their impact on the world. INVISTA’s CORDURA® fabric believes that Sustainability Begins with Products That Last™.
This is the idea that products that are built strong tend to last longer, and therefore need to be replaced less often. As a result, there is less waste and a reduction in the use of precious resources such as energy and water. This is the thinking that helps drive the development of award-winning CORDURA® fabrics engineered for long-lasting performance.
The innovations in this year’s ISPO Textrends collection demonstrate how CORDURA® fabrics hit the crossover trend ‘sweet spot’ to meet all these demands.
The softer side of durability
A Top 10 ISPO Textrends winner in the Street Sports category is CORDURA® 4Ever™ NYCO knit from Ekoten Tekstil, Turkey – engineered using an intimate blend of high tenacity nylon 6,6 and BCI cotton to be soft yet highly durable. This combination of technology and sustainable natural fibres offers long-lasting performance solutions for hoodies, leggings and other lifestyle sportswear designed for both extreme conditions and everyday challenges.
Along with powerful protection, construction treatments such as brushing or raised nap create a soft and supple hand – making the fabrics exceptionally comfortable and practical for endurance activities that include running, hiking, and climbing.
Collaborate to innovate
The way ahead is through closer collaboration – with leading brands working ever more closely together to maximise their strengths to develop the next generation of sustainable solutions. New ideas designed to help reduce the burden on the planet’s resources.
In collaboration with DuPont Tate and Lyle Bio Products, INVISTA’s CORDURA® brand had developed durable eco-efficient textiles made with bio-based Susterra® propanediol waterproof membrane. A durable CORDURA® Naturalle X Susterra® shell fabric from Everest Textile Co Ltd, Taiwan is an ISPO Textrends winner in the membranes and coatings category.
This same collaborative commitment is seen in CORDURA® 4Ever™ knit using Lenzing TENCEL™ fibre from Ekoten, Turkey. A winner in the Street Sports category this long-lasting technical knit blends durable nylon with cellulosic fibres from sustainably sourced renewable wood for a softer yet sustainable edge.
Future ready authenticity
CORDURA® fabrics using re-purposed and responsible technologies feature in this year’s on-trend award winners – giving a new twist to the traditional.
CORDURA® ECO fabrics from Tiong Liong Corp of Taiwan – ISPO Textrends Soft Equipment category – are made in part with recycled polyester post-consumer waste to produce woven fabrics with classic modern design textures. Fabrics offer enhanced resistance to tears and scuffs for modern carry solutions and classic footwear.
CORDURA® TrueLock (Wolf Gray) fabric – Soft Equipment category – offers a greener alternative to conventional piece-dyeing techniques. The colour is added at the polymer fibre extrusion level which supports the manufacture of fabrics using less water and energy and generating less CO2.
Other award winners include CORDURA® Ultralite from Huamao, China and Chia Her, Taiwan. These are super lightweight and super strong water repellent fabrics for stylish packability – in outer layer garments or technical backpacks.
Breathable and durable CORDURA® AFT knit “Denver” by Tessitura Mifer of Italy – a Top 10 Soft Equipment category winner – uses a two-tone 3D mesh nylon 66 knit to create a multi-functional classic. Not only for footwear, but durable bag and pack applications.
Durable, sustainable, desirable. The ISPO Textrends portfolio of award-winning CORDURA® fabrics offers total inspiration for today’s hi-tech designers. New dimensions and new opportunities to satisfy the demand for sustainability with ideas that are fashionably on-trend.
